150W Walkable Lightweight Semi-Rigid Solar Panels

Lightweight semi-rigid 150W of rated power in a laminate about a sixth the thickness of a glass module. The CLM-150ME uses back-contact cells and an ETFE front sheet over a structural backing plate, built for RVs, boats, vans, and off-grid products where weight and curve matter. Fully customizable through Couleenergy’s OEM/ODM program.

The CLM-150ME takes the same back-contact cell array that powers our rigid CLM-150MBC and rebuilds it as a semi-rigid ETFE laminate — no tempered glass, no aluminium frame, no compromise on output. You get identical electrical performance in a solar panel that’s roughly half the weight and about a sixth of the thickness, ready to bond onto a curved deck, a van roof, or any surface a rigid module was never going to fit.

This isn’t a downrated “flexible” panel wearing a premium label. It’s a structural build: a stiff backing plate bonded into the laminate carries the load, so the panel holds its shape, resists point loads, and — in walkable configurations — takes foot traffic without stressing the cells underneath.

Why Semi-Rigid, Why Now

A glass solar module does two jobs at once: it generates power and it protects the cells. Split those jobs apart, and the panel gets lighter without getting weaker. Swap the glass and frame for an ETFE frontsheet and a purpose-built backing plate, and the CLM-150ME still puts out a full 150 W — because the cells were always doing the work — while shedding the weight and bulk that make a rigid panel awkward on a deck, a roof, or a curved hull.

For system design, the CLM-150ME’s voltage profile pairs best with an MPPT controller, which converts surplus voltage into extra charging current rather than clipping it. Need a PWM-compatible 12 V nominal string instead? Our engineering team can reconfigure the series count — just flag it in your inquiry.

Why Distributors and Wholesalers Are Adding Semi-Rigid to Their Line

If you’re sourcing to resell rather than to install, the pitch is different — and arguably stronger.

No glass means no breakage claims. Cracked solar panels are one of the most common damage claims in solar freight, and they tend to show up after the container’s already been signed for. A glass-free ETFE laminate removes that failure mode outright — nothing brittle to crack in a forklift drop, a rough truck route, or a bumpy last-mile delivery.

Lighter and thinner moves the freight math. At roughly half the weight and a fraction of the thickness of a framed glass panel, the CLM-150ME stacks tighter on a pallet and loads lighter per container. That’s fewer containers per order, less warehouse footprint per watt stored, and a real cost advantage before a single unit reaches your customer.

A shelf that doesn’t look like everyone else’s. Rigid glass solar panels compete almost entirely on price. Semi-rigid ETFE modules serve a different buyer — marine, RV, van-life, and off-grid customers who need something a standard panel can’t give them — which means more room for margin and a catalog that doesn’t just race commodity pricing.

Built by Couleenergy — Where Custom Is the Standard

Most solar manufacturers sell you their catalog. Couleenergy sells you an engineering conversation.

The CLM-150ME shown here is a standard reference configuration — but almost nothing about it is fixed. We routinely adjust dimensions, corner radius, backing plate material, cell layout, voltage, bypass diode count, cable length and exit position, connector type, junction box style, and backsheet colour to match a specific product or a specific catalog gap, not the other way around.

Backing plate options span aluminium, fiberglass, composite core, and carbon fiber, each suited to a different priority — maximum stiffness, marine durability, best strength-per-kilogram, or minimum possible weight. We’ll help you choose based on the end application, not just sell you the plate we happen to have in stock.

Engineering support, not just fabrication. Send us the mounting surface, target voltage, controller type, and power goal, and our team returns a dimensioned drawing and predicted electrical spec before anything gets built. Samples follow the approved drawing, get validated the way the product will actually be used — mounted, loaded, weathered, salt-tested for marine builds — and only then move to a low-MOQ pilot run.

Private label from day one. Custom serial numbering, printed logos, and branded packaging are available starting at pilot volume, so a custom panel builds your brand instead of reminding your customers whose factory it came from.
