That means the product and how it is used, the daily energy the load needs, the battery and charge controller it must feed, the usable area with keep-out zones, the mounting and bending conditions, the electrical interface, the environment, the appearance, and the volume you expect. A wattage and a size are not an RFQ. They are a guess dressed as a specification.<\/p>\n    <p style=\"line-height:1.7;color:#192c27;padding:0;\">Send the full package and a competent factory answers with a feasibility review: a proposed cell layout, a voltage window, a material recommendation, a bend limit, named risks and a validation plan. Send only watts and you get the closest standard panel on the shelf.<\/p>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">Why Most Custom Solar Panel RFQs Get a Slow or Wrong Answer<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">We read a lot of enquiries. Most arrive in a single line: &#8220;Please quote your 100 W flexible panel.&#8221; That cannot be quoted accurately &mdash; only answered with a question &mdash; and every question adds a day to your project. Multiply by three suppliers and you have lost a fortnight before anyone has drawn anything.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">A custom module is not a catalogue item with a variant picker. Its outline, voltage, laminate and cable exit are all consequences of decisions you have already made about your product. Until the factory knows those decisions, it is pricing an imaginary panel.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">There is a second, quieter problem. Buyers over-specify what feels technical and under-specify what actually sets the design. They name a cell technology in line one, then never mention the charge controller, the roof vents, or how the panel is held down. Cell technology moves the answer a few percent; the other three can move it by half.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0;\">So this guide is written from the factory side of the table. For each item, we explain what a manufacturer does with the information, and what happens when it is missing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">Start With Energy, Not Watts: How to Size a Custom Panel<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Here is the single most useful change you can make to an RFQ: stop opening with a wattage, and open instead with the energy your product consumes in a day.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Wattage is an output of the design; energy is an input. A watt figure tells the factory almost nothing, because the same load produces very different array sizes depending on where the product lives and which month you design for.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Take a small monitoring device drawing about 3 W around the clock, which is 72 Wh per day, and assume a realistic 65% system efficiency once you allow for the controller, battery round-trip, heat and dirt. Treat it as a planning band, not a promise.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0;\">Same device, same product, twice the panel. Nobody in the factory can pick between those three rows for you, because the choice is commercial rather than technical. Tell us which month has to work and the wattage answers itself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">The Five Lines That Change the Quote Most<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">If you only have five minutes, write these five lines. Those matter, but they are refinements. The five lines above are structural.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">1. Product and Application Context<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Begin with the thing the panel is going on, not the panel itself. A photo beats a paragraph, a dimensioned sketch beats a photo, and a CAD file beats both.<\/p>\n  <h3 style=\"font-size:1.15em;color:#007f5f;padding:0 0 6px 0;\">What to include<\/h3>\n  <ul style=\"line-height:1.8;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 22px;\">\n    <li>Photos of the product and the surface the panel will sit on, plus a sketch, drawing or CAD file with the intended solar area marked<\/li>\n    <li>Application type: RV, marine, van, portable device, IoT sensor, vehicle roof, facade, awning<\/li>\n    <li>Whether the product is stationary, mobile, or packed away between uses<\/li>\n    <li>Target countries or markets for sale<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0;\">Application changes the laminate, the encapsulant, the reinforcement and the qualification route. The Energy Budget Behind the Load<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">This is where most RFQs are thinnest, and where the best engineering conversations start.<\/p>\n  <ul style=\"line-height:1.8;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 22px;\">\n    <li>Daily energy consumption in watt-hours, not just peak wattage<\/li>\n    <li>Peak draw and duty cycle: always on, or short bursts?<\/li>\n    <li>Solar&#8217;s role: full replacement, partial assist, trickle maintenance, or backup<\/li>\n    <li>Required autonomy, plus the worst month you need to cover and roughly where<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">A load running two hours a day is a completely different sizing problem from one running continuously, even at the same peak current. Duty cycle is often the difference between a panel that fits and one that does not.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0;\">If you do not know the consumption yet, say so. &#8220;We measured 60&ndash;90 Wh\/day on the prototype&#8221; is honest and workable. A confident number invented to fill a field is worse than a range.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">3. Battery, Charge Controller and the 12 V Voltage Trap<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">A solar panel is defined by its voltage as much as its power. Voltage comes from how many cells sit in series, and that number is fixed at design time. Nobody can adjust it later.<\/p>\n  <h3 style=\"font-size:1.15em;color:#007f5f;padding:0 0 6px 0;\">Send these details<\/h3>\n  <ul style=\"line-height:1.8;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 22px;\">\n    <li>Battery chemistry, nominal voltage and capacity in Ah or Wh, plus any BMS charge limits<\/li>\n    <li>The exact charge controller model, and whether it is MPPT or PWM<\/li>\n    <li>Its input voltage window and maximum input current<\/li>\n    <li>How many panels will be wired in series or parallel<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Controller type matters more than most buyers expect. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2014\/07\/21\/which-solar-charge-controller-pwm-or-mppt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A PWM controller is essentially a switch<\/a>, so it drags array voltage down close to battery voltage. An MPPT controller decouples the two and holds the panel at its maximum power point.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Victron&#8217;s technical paper works a clean example. For a 100 W panel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/upload\/documents\/Technical-Information-Which-solar-charge-controller-PWM-or-MPPT.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an MPPT controller sets the panel at about 18 V and draws roughly 5.6 A<\/a>, while PWM pulls that same panel down to around 13.5 V on a discharged battery. The same paper shows the gap narrowing in heat, with PWM sitting within about 10% of MPPT across a band of battery voltages and temperatures. The honest summary is not &#8220;PWM is bad&#8221; &mdash; it is that the penalty grows with the gap between panel and battery voltage, and is worst when the panel is cool.<\/p>\n  <div style=\"background:#f2f7f4;border-left:5px solid #55a630;padding:16px 20px;\">\n    <p style=\"line-height:1.7;color:#192c27;padding:0;\"><strong>A common and expensive mistake:<\/strong> asking for a &#8220;12 V panel&#8221; without naming the controller. If you plan to use PWM, you need a string around 17&ndash;18 V at V<sub>mp<\/sub>. A modern 22&ndash;25 V custom panel is not a PWM panel, and pairing them wastes a large share of the harvest for the life of the product.<\/p>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <div style=\"background:#192c27;padding:22px 24px;border-bottom:4px solid #feb501;\">\n    <p style=\"color:#ffffff;font-size:1.15em;line-height:1.6;font-weight:700;padding:0 0 8px 0;\">Can&#8217;t answer half of these yet?<\/p>\n    <p style=\"color:#d7e5df;line-height:1.7;padding:0 0 14px 0;\">That is the normal starting position. A photo, a rough load figure and a tape measure are enough to begin working backwards to a buildable specification.<\/p>\n    <p style=\"padding:0;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/couleenergy.com\/fr\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"display:inline-block;background:#007f5f;color:#ffffff;font-weight:700;font-style:italic;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:0.04em;padding:12px 22px;border-bottom:3px solid #feb501;text-decoration:none;\">Send Your Constraints &raquo;<\/a><\/p>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n \n<div style=\"padding:0 0 22px 0;\">\n  <h2 style=\"font-size:1.55em;line-height:1.3;color:#192c27;padding:0 0 10px 0;\">4. Usable Area, Keep-Out Zones and the Outline<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Total area is not usable area. On a real roof or deck, vents, hatches, antennas, rails, drainage channels, fasteners and branding zones eat a surprising share of the surface, so mark every one of them.<\/p>\n  <ul style=\"line-height:1.8;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 22px;\">\n    <li>Usable dimensions with tolerances, plus keep-out zones and their clearances<\/li>\n    <li>Whether the surface is flat, curved in one axis, or compound-curved<\/li>\n    <li>Corner radii, cut-outs and mounting-hole positions<\/li>\n    <li>Any obstruction that will cast a shadow on the panel<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Then comes the part almost nobody expects. Outline shape can change power even when area does not, because cells have to tile inside the shape as whole units.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Flexible back-contact panels are normally built from half-cut cells around 182 &times; 91 mm &mdash; the format used in a typical 260 W ETFE laminate, where 66 of them in series produce roughly 3.9 W each. That finer granularity is not an accident. It is how a factory keeps the tiling penalty small, and on ordinary rectangles it works: a 1,000 &times; 600 mm outline and a 1,200 &times; 500 mm outline both fit thirty cells and land at the same power.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Narrow strips are where geometry still bites. Take the same 0.60 m&sup2;, a 15 mm border and 2 mm gaps. A 1,500 &times; 400 mm outline takes eight columns by four rows, so thirty-two cells, around 126 W. Stretch it to 2,000 &times; 300 mm and the width no longer accepts two rows, so you get a single line of twenty-one cells, around 83 W.<\/p>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0;\">Same area, same cells, same materials, roughly 50% apart. Flexible Panel Bend Radius: Millimetres, Not Degrees<\/h2>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">Flexible panel listings love angles, and you will see claims of 30&deg;, 180&deg;, even 248&deg; of flex. An angle is not a mechanical specification. The same angle spread over a longer panel is a much gentler bend, so the number tells an engineer nothing on its own. Ask for, and supply, three things instead:<\/p>\n  <ul style=\"line-height:1.8;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 22px;\">\n    <li><strong>Rayon de courbure minimal en millim\u00e8tres<\/strong> &mdash; measured against the panel length<\/li>\n    <li><strong>The bending axis<\/strong> &mdash; along the long side, the short side, or both<\/li>\n    <li><strong>Flex cycles<\/strong> &mdash; is this a one-time install curve, or does the panel move in service?<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p style=\"line-height:1.75;color:#365951;padding:0 0 12px 0;\">That third point separates two very different products. A panel bonded once to a fixed curve sees static strain; a panel that rolls up daily sees fatigue, and fatigue is what cracks interconnects. The 2021 edition of IEC 61215 added test methods for flexible modules, <a href=\"https:\/\/webstore.iec.ch\/en\/publication\/61345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">including a bending test known as MQT 22<\/a>.
